Mocha Reverie: A Low Caffeine Mocha for Coffee Lovers

Mocha Reverie roasted root tea prepared like a mocha latte with oat milk creamer

For many people, a mocha latte is more than just a drink. It becomes part of the rhythm of the day. The aroma of chocolate, the warmth of roasted flavor, and a small pause in the middle of everything else.

The challenge, of course, is the caffeine. A mocha can taste wonderful but sometimes bring jittery energy and the familiar afternoon crash.

Mocha Reverie grew out of conversations with customers who told me they loved mocha drinks but were trying to cut back on coffee.

The goal was simple. Create something that captures the flavor of a mocha while keeping the caffeine very low.

The result is a roasted herbal blend that works well as a coffee alternative for mocha lovers. It offers the flavor people enjoy in a mocha while providing a much calmer kind of cup.

The Flavor of a Mocha, Rooted in Herbs

Mocha Reverie is built around roasted roots and cacao. These ingredients naturally create a cup with the kind of depth people associate with coffee drinks.

The blend includes:

• Chicory root

• Dandelion root

• Cocoa nibs

• Cinnamon

Together they produce a brew that is smooth, lightly chocolatey, and pleasantly roasted.

Many people enjoy it the same way they would a mocha latte. Add milk or a plant based creamer and a touch of sweetness if you like.

When I drink it at home, I usually add a splash of oat milk sweet creamer, which brings out the mocha character beautifully.

The overall experience feels very similar to a mocha, but without the strong caffeine lift.

Chicory Root: The Heart of the Blend

Chicory root has been used for generations as a coffee alternative because of its deep roasted flavor.

In Mocha Reverie it provides the backbone of the cup and gives the blend its satisfying body.

Chicory also contains inulin, a natural prebiotic fiber that supports beneficial gut bacteria and healthy digestion.

Roasted Dandelion Root: Depth and Balance

Dandelion root adds another layer of roasted flavor.

In herbal traditions it has long been appreciated for supporting digestion and liver health. When roasted, it develops a character that many people find surprisingly coffee-like.

Together, chicory and dandelion create the roasted foundation that makes this blend feel familiar to coffee drinkers.

Cocoa Nibs: The Mocha Character

Cocoa nibs bring the chocolate note that turns this roasted root tea into something that truly evokes a mocha.

Cacao also contains antioxidants and minerals such as magnesium, which may contribute to a gentle lift in mood.

Cinnamon: A Touch of Warmth

A small amount of cinnamon rounds out the blend with warmth and subtle sweetness.

Cinnamon has long been used in herbal traditions to support circulation and balanced blood sugar. In this blend it mainly serves to bring the flavors together.

Good Hot, and Surprisingly Good Ice

Mocha Reverie works well both ways.

Served hot, it pairs nicely with milk or plant based creamers and makes a comforting mocha-style latte.

Served iced, it becomes a refreshing low-caffeine mocha and a satisfying alternative to iced coffee.

Brew it a little strong, chill it, and pour it over ice. Add milk or a plant based creamer if you like. A little oat milk sweet creamer works especially well.

A Different Kind of Daily Ritual

At Maitri Tea, I tend to think of tea as something that supports the rhythm of everyday life.

Mocha Reverie offers mocha lovers a way to keep the flavor they enjoy while moving toward a calmer kind of cup.

The comfort of a mocha without the caffeine roller coaster.

Just a warm cup, a deep breath, and a moment of Maitri.
